Jax and the Midnight Sun

This week I got to go to Bodø, Norway for a work meeting. Bodø is just north of the arctic circle, and this was both my first trip to Norway, and my first time being above the arctic circle. The scenery there is incredible, it looks like something from a fantasy novel with green valleys and jagged mountains jutting up from the sea. I had a little time outside of work to do some site seeing in the area. I visited the Saltstraumen, a very narrow opening to a fjord where the tide rushes through at a very fast speed. I also did some driving along the coast and mountains.

And, indeed, it is true that the sun never sets.

I went for a drive and walk at midnight one night and the sun was still up and it was bright enough to walk around without and problems. At about 1am, like a switch, everything suddenly became brighter and it was daytime again. Even more interesting was that I could walk around comfortably without a jacket, so far north and at night.

Norway was really nice and I can't wait to go back. The only thing I could do without is the prices ($12+ for a beer!).

The rest of the pictures are here.
